All teams are required to play man to man defense. This means during any press situation when pressing is allowed. For the 4th and 5th grade levels there will be no technical fouls for this violation. After the third warning by the officials it will simply result in a turnover. However, for the 6th, 7th & 8th grades after the third such warning it results in a technical foul.
Pressing Defense is only allowed in the 4th quarter for grades 4 and 5. Grades 6 through 8 are allowed to press the entire game. The only exception where pressing is not allowed is if a team is up by 15 or more points. If there is a no pressing situation the defense must get down the court.
Fouls - Fouls shots are awarded after the 7th team foul with two foul shots awarded after the 10th foul as per the MHSAA rules. A player has fouled out after committing their 5th foul...
Score table - the host team must provide a clock keeper and a scorer. The host team has the official book. However, it is expected that room at the scorer's table will be allotted for the visitors bookeeper.
Game Start - Teams can start a game with four players. A technical foul should awarded for players not listed in the official book.
Uniforms - All teams are responsible for having a light and dark color uniform. Numbers should follow the MHSAA guidelines.
Roster - Players must play on the roster of record. Should a team need to borrow a player from a different level in their own program to play the game, the game is a forfeit in the books though the game itself can be played.
Admission - teams may charge a max of $2.00 as an admission fee for adults to offset the cost of officials. School aged youths can only be charged $1.00
Concession - a concession stand is allowed and the sole discretion of the host team.
Posting - The host program MUST have a copy of the rules posted at the scorers table to be made available for officials and coaches.
Ejections - any player that is ejected MUST sit out the next schedule game of their respective program. It is the responsibility of BOTH programs to report an ejection through email of phone contact to the MMFBA. Also, IF a player, Unruly Fan should be removed from the game or the gym then THE HEAD COACH will be required to sit out the next scheduled game. It is the responsibility of each program to emphasize sportsmanship for players and fans. No fan is allowed to approach the scorers table at any time...
Point System - each team is awarded 5 pts for a win and 1 points for a loss. If a game goes into overtime the winning team is awarded an additional 2 points while the losing team will be awarded an additional point. A team that ends up forfeiting a game will lose 3 points from their overall league score. This point system is used as the first tiebreaker in a division. Head to head is next the scoring defense. We hope this system will avoid the perception of a team running up the score to improve their standing.
